I always say "If I were to become mayor, the first order of business would be to put Ogden back in." I would be terribly unpopular, but hey, its a missing link.
I came across both the Genna incident and Maggio's website while researching my article. Her website doesn't really have any good stuff on Ogden, although it does have a couple good photos of LP/OT in the 80s. Like this one
with the great caption "evidence of sanitation problems." Haha! Way to sound academic. The Laugh Inn Lounge at the corner of Lincoln/Wells is now a Bar Louie, and the area shows little evidence of sanitation problems.
Also, this one
of the Menominee Club was photographed by Cushman http://webapp1.dlib.indiana.edu/cushman/results/detail.do?query=willow+chicago&page=1&pagesize=20&display=thumbcap&action=search&pnum=P03776
way back in 1947 when it was still a bowling alley. You can still see the stained glass bowling alley sign on the front (in person).
Anyway, what I wanted to say before I got distracted with all that - the best article about Ogden was written by Greg Beaubien for the Reader. Its called the Disappearing Thoroughfare, or something similar. Its listed as a source for my article, and is available on the Reader's website.
Long. Winded. Sorry.
