Freshwater Swimming Pools?

Does anyone recall going to a freshwater (ie, not chlorinated) pool in the city? I remember it had a black bottom to heat up the water, but it was still very very cold. Do these still exist?

I can't imagine that IDPH (Illinois Department of Public Health) would allow that, unless there was an alternate filtration system, which do exist.
