My boy scout troop from Englewood Methodist church at 64th and Stewart went to camp Fort Dearborn in 1955. There wood cabins with double bunks between the road and the river with wood or coal (?) burning stoves, It was cold weather and when we tried to start a fire, the smoke backed up into the cabin, My scoutmaster, MR Rambo and his assistant Mr. Barrett, with the help of his son Bobby Barrett, dismantled the stovepipe and cleared out the blockage. The first day was rain with mud everywhere. The second day, the mud turned to ice LOL The outhouse was a building with about 10 seats in a row. Obviously, the seats were really cold and drafty.

I still have most of my merit badges, rank pins, hat, scarf, hand book and patches. I always wanted to be in the "Order of Arrow" mostly the older scouts got that honor. I still have my hand drawn map of Fort Dearborn. When I quit the scouts I gave all my uniforms and camping equipment to my cousin.
Rosemont just redid the whole waterfall on the other side of the river from Fort Dearborn Boy Scout Camp. It's supposed to be dedicated soon. I like Rosemont, am there every day, thinking about moving there, but I always had to crack up at the guy collecting a fee from the wedding parties who had their picture taken in front of the old waterfall.
No bonfires the weekend we were there. Everything was wet and muddy on Satutday, and frozen on Sunday. Breakfast bacon really smelled good on the pot belly stove.
