The intersection of NW Hwy Foster and Central was a gas station with one bay facing Nw Hwy with a set of pumps facing Central. I think is was a Sinclair Gas because of the Green and white porcelain tile bricks. Just south of there stands an empty Burger king and BP gas station, Years prior it was an Amoco and as many have stated a large restaurant, the sign posts are original to that steak house. Prior to that it was a garden center.

The North triangle was a window and siding store Prior to that it was a small snack shop. It also was the base for a white way sign because of the traffic that passed by. it was a stop for everyone taking a bus to transfer to Milwaukee or Central Which had electric buses.

The corner where the Blue Angel stood was the auto and garden center for Community discount which was just across Milwaukee that sold clothes and records, which later became Saxon paint. The corner where the bank stands was the remains of a business I think was a Polk Brothers which also had stores down Central. Just to the west on Nw Hwy was a plumbing supply company Fix Lipman.

The corner where Kings is as well as Firestone was a gas station which later became a body shop. and a series of store fronts that contained a shoe repair shop and jeweler. Down the street was Ernie's diner and a Schwinn bike shop and a banquet hall, a music shop, magic shop and Vaughans bar which is now on Nw Hwy.

Where Walgreens stands was a dairy that blew up in the late 50's damaging the Henry's hamburgers. That dairy later produced instant wiped cream in a can. There were also one of the few places in Chicago to get goats milk.

Just across NW Hwy south was a an auto junk yard.

The Jefferson park and Norwood park areas were rich with history. Banks, dance halls, onion plants, farms, Music schools (Litus House of music), dance schools bowling alleys, even houses before the Kennedy expressway was dug.

Well the old Blue Angel site at Miwaukee and Central is available again. The previous owners of the Blue Angel tried to turn the place into a drinking establishment, named Finnegans. Today I drove past and saw a orange sign in the window advertising the site as available for lease.

Also a month or two ago they razed a building next door to the Walgreens that was last used as a payday loan office and previously as a Checkers restaurant. In early postings, one of the writers indicated that there was a Henry's hamburger site on the site years ago.

ther than the fencing, there are n signs as to what might be constructed there.

Make room for more parking. In exchange for the zoning change to tear down the vacant building at Foster and Milwaukee the property manager of the Walgreen location agreed to significant building improvements.

For those that don't know Walgreen's has been a part of Jefferson Park for many years. It has occupied its current location since moving from it prior location at Ainslie ave and Milwaukee. Before that it was located at Lawrence and Milwaukee Where Hoyne Saving and Loan is located. (When Hoyne expanded it took over the corner, Walgreen moved to a new building that once housed Gruneau Pharmacy at Ainslie.)

Hoyne occupied a location early on just west of the Dunkin Donuts about where the entrance to the CTA is now located. It was next to the Holiday ballroom and Litus house of music a school of music. Lee Freello auto body was just West of that.

Over the years the neighborhood has changed.

The space that was the hamburger stand, etc., is now an extension of the Walgreen's parking lot. The restaurant was reopened as an Elly's, then closed for some reason (good food and service, and seemed to be drawing customers).
