Now, Until about maybe 10 years ago some place on 2746 S.Kildare had a 1960's plastic S&H Green Stamps sign in front, What specifically WAS that place?. And it WAS quite unusual to have that place exist on a more quaint side street. And it was pretty showy for a side street, To say the least, If not unusual.

No idea. Could have just been one of the countless small corner grocery stores in the old neighborhood.

It wasn't a grocery store. It was between 2744-2758 N.Kildare. It was some sort of community chest?.

I was asked in this thread http://forgottenchicago.com/forum/1/1489/czech_chicago by the poster Jayg about a Czech Sokol hall that stood at 2345 S. Kedzie in what is now Little Village. Jay here is a blurb and image from my book about that Sokol.
"Sokol Chicago is strategically placed in the center of this image in Macha's booklet due to its importance to the community. Sokol Chicago was established on March 4th, 1892 for the Bohemian residents of the old Czech California section [of Lawndale-Crawford]. The building which stood as a neighborhood landmark at 2335 Kedzie has been razed and is now a vacant lot."
I wasn't sure of the exact year of demolition, but Jayg said it was razed in 1963 to make room for a National Tea grocery store.
Here are three Pamatnik, or memorial books, put out about Sokol Chicago from my collection.

Here is a neat building I have wanted to post about for a while now.....
Chicago Bohemian James P. Vrba (pronounced Verb-a) was the proprietor of the Verb Sign Works that painted many signs in Chicago and vicinity back in the day. Here is an ad I scanned from the 1915 Chicago Bohemian Adresář, or directory, of the Verb Sign Works.
Here is a 1923 ink blotter from the company from my collection.
Here is a ghost sign painted by The Verb Sign Works. in Cicero near Austin Blvd. & Roosevelt Rd. ca. late 1920s. the Kirchman State Bank became the Western State Bank in Cicero by the late 20s.
Here is the Verb building at 2144 S. Troy in Little Village.
How cool is this? The ghost sign of the "Signs" letters which can be seen in the 96 year old ad above (click the ad to enlarge).

I thought this was kind of neat. This is the residence of Dr. Frank Bessler at 2309 S. Millard Ave. ca. 1897.
Here is the same house in 2009. Notice that the porto-co is now gone and the side entrance has been bricked over.

The barber shop was "Paul's." It was north of 31st, but south of the T-alley.
