Who are these people from Chicago???

Chicago was the second large "Swedish town" worldwide in the late 1890's and the beginning of 1900's. It was the town where nearly one million Swedish emigrants lived. As a Swede living in Sweden and trying to find and identify old ancestors from that period is just like trying to find a needle in a haystack. A couple of months ago, from an old Swedish ancestor, I received roughly twenty old photos of ancestors in America that are unknown as we can't identify the persons on the photos.

It's my understanding and guesses that many people in America with Swedish roots might have a lot of old family photos at their homes. My unidentified photos are published at the Internet page
http://oldphotos.homeip.net/Who_is_this/Chicago/Photos.htm

Hopefully some of you will find a photo that matches or might have information about some of the persons on the photos.

I'll be grateful for every single clue that will help my research; my contact information will be found at the Internet page
http://oldphotos.homeip.net/Who_is_this/Chicago/Photos.htm

Some of the photos are from Leadville CO but as per information several of the Swedes there moved to the Chicago area when the boom days where over.

Thanks!

Hi all!

Thanks for the inputs. So fare I have an ongoing dialogue with Beth and I’m trying to follow Richard’s advise.

I’ll be grateful for all and new inputs.

Is there a Historical Society of people with Swedish roots in the Chicago area that might be able to guide and help me further?

Thanks!

There are the Swedish American Archives located at North Park College on the north side of the city. Here is a website with more information:

There's also the Swedish American museum on Clark St. I've been there but can't recall if they have a library. You'd think.

You can try posting your pictures on:

deadfred.com

or searching their pictures for similar or the same names as in your family.
