Silvestri factory or store location?

Hi all,

I'm wondering if anyone knows where on the north side was the Silvestri factory, or factory outlet, or something along those lines. I remember being there in the early 80s, and I think it was near Diversey, but I'm not sure.

Thanks,

Mike

My memory is kinda fuzzy, but I seem to recall in the late 60's they had some kind of facility in the Ogden/Grand Ave. area. We thought it was cool to walk by when they had the overhead doors open and see them working on Christmas displays and snag stuff from their dumpsters.

A trib article from the 80's says their seven story factory was on Ohio near the Como Inn.

They were down I believe off of Fry Street. My father worked in the Merchandise Mart for years, and used to buy samples from many of the companies that were located there. I remember when he brought home Silvestri lights from their office in the Mart, we were the first people in the neighborhood to have them, so they had some sort of facility in the Mart.

None of these are correct, which is why I'm thinking it was an outlet store or the factory itself. My family bought Silvestri Xmas lights there.

It was on the north side, somewhere near Diversey I think. It had a gravel parking lot in front of an older factory building. If I remember correctly, there was a railroad spur in front of it with a tank car sitting there. It makes sense then that it was in the area of Diversey and the Metra North line, but can't remember where. I've looked at track maps and can't pinpoint the location.

Thanks for looking and responding.

I remember turning down a side street near St Bonaventure, which would make it around the 1600 block of Diversey. You are correct, I remember having to drive up a inclined driveway and having to drive over the railroad tracks to get into the parking lot.

AHA! Thanks Kchi! Did a search for Silvestri and Paulina and came up with

2720 North Paulina Street, Chicago, IL

That makes sense because where the new houses are now west of Paulina and south of Diversey, there used to be factories and a railroad spur.

Thanks for the help!

Mike

From what I remember, in the late '50's early '60's, they had a factory/desplay
off Ohio and Racine.
