Clear-Ridge Historical Society presentations are quite interesting - worth a trip if you have a chance.
Also, if you're in the area, it's always worth seeing the former Clearing State Bank at 5235 W 63rd Street. This 1959 bank is one of the least-known local works by Harry Weese, and has been vacant and deteriorating for about 5 years.

A book recommendation, for those that may be interested in John Wentworth and his property in Garfield Ridge: Chicago Giant: A Biography of "Long John" Wentworth by Don E. Fehrenbacher (copyright 1957). An old book, but hopefully available in a Chicago library.

I am sorry I missed this---am finding the post too late. I discovered Garfield Ridge when going to an estate sale there and have returned now many times for the bakeries. Weber's, Pticek & Son, and Racine Bakery (all have websites with detailed information) are all wonderful and a bit of a glimpse into the way Chicago used to be. Old-fashioned bakeries have all but disappeared from the North Side.
