I used to scavenge for old radios and clocks, to tear apart. Never got a chance to restore any of them, as my mother had me throw them out after discovering them.

Sure would be nice if they could shut off redser45's access, and pull all these scam ads for phamaceuticals!

I used to know a guy who went to Tilden Tech, but he was a bit older than you. Name was Frank Payne. He'd been a standup comedian in the 1940's.

My impression is that I'm a bit younger than some of the other posters, so all I've known of old L cars were, for the most part, the 6000 "Spam Can" cars. One thing I have noticed is that, early on, these cars were equipped with resilient wheels, which consisted of rubber pads compressed between the hub and the wheel rim. At least, I gathered that from photos of them as new. Growing u

I just don't get why the moderators don't at least delete this stuff. Oh, well...

Regarding low-usage closures, one might question why the elevated was left intact from the south State Street Subway portal to Wabash and Van Buren. Having an extra access line would be the most logical reason, but then that might also have argued for leaving the Logan Square L in place to Lake, and connecting into Paulina Junction from the north/

There's a political blog I hang out on that has community moderation that seems to work well. They have Recommend buttons, and when you have comment and recommended enough, you become a Trusted User, which gives you a Hide button, as well. Two Hide rates will drop a posting to invisibility to the rest of the web. It's a capacious system, and they have some sophisticated spambots, but I kind of dou

Why is it that I think about Yogi Berra at this point? "Nobody goes there any more. It's too crowded." So long, Yogi. I hope the Forum doesn't end up following you.

Oh, it may be that the admins aren't sure how to delete all this spam, but I just don't see what the current super-spammer gets out of this. Nobody here will click on his/her links.

I PM'd Jacob, offering to do cleanup if they gave me access. Being retired gives me a little more time.

Oh, those pot-bellied coal stoves were ubiquitous in all older L stations.

Ok. Big question is what software you'd use, and how you would handle a problem like this. I hang out on a political blog that has some heavy-duty spam blocking, plus there's community moderation. But that is backed up by the site owner, who has a business, and they allow legitimate ads, and also allow blocking those, through subscription.

Report them. I've almost got the first page done. Don't reply to them, and certainly don't click on any of the links. And may I say I'd be happy to take over cleanup.

If I remember correctly, the Halsted station was removed as part of the Green Line rebuild.

There are two locations on Foster, at Throop and at Kostner, that still have electromechanical controllers. Central Park may still have one, too.

There was a 2-story building on that island in later years after the Wendell Building was torn down. I think it was a City clinic of some sort. I don't know when that building was torn down.
