It means something to me as Christmas is upon us once again. In the old days I remember this fire station playing Christmas music that carried throughout the neighborhood and they even had a large wooden manger outside. Of course this is no longer allow

Yes, Jak378, I remember Elliotts very well. Right next to the railroad embankment and all done in white on the outside. We once lived at 55th and Bishop and I recognize some of the other names mentioned. Now I do wish that you would get off of this subject as you are making me darn hungary and it is getting too late to go antwhere or even rustle up some grub. Tom C

Dear Vern H, Thank for posting this documentary on line. It was very heart-moving to see my childhood and and now deceased friend, John (Bob Mitchell), and his lovely daughter, Maureen, win the title of Queen of Hegwisch. Bob was a retired Chicago policeman who rose to the rank of sergeant and had the distinct honor of being known as "The Sheriff of the Kingsington district. He was also in

Funny, funny story. I have the poster on the wall right behind me. I was an extra standing next to the piano player in Calvino's where Tom Hanks passed the note that read, "If you kill Michael Sullivan," all your debts are forgiven." Of course, Tom Hanks grabbed the gun and shot him instead. That whole scene on the dance floor was wasted on bad lighting as I saw all of the good dance

The prefabs that everyone is talking about were actually constructed during the Second War War to house military personnel and their families. I would often sit on the slopes of the Midway and watch the soldiers doing close order drill. Then up the street on Drexel at 61st they had an obstacle couse set up for the men to run through.Supposedly hese soldiers were being trained to become officers. T

Right up the street along Lake Park Ave. is the Hyde Park Historical Society that is situated in an old cable car trminal. One of my friends many years ago told me of the time that he got lucky. He happened by

Long story, but my cousin once owned the concesson in the roller bowl located at washington and aberdeen streets. She married a fireman from the nearby firehouse and he died in his 80's a few years ago. When I was young, I would sometimes play the games in the arcade. I believe that the building became Opraph's studio.
