Geez. I can't believe you guy chose that photo... My dad worked at Norton's for years. I spent many a night near that corner waiting for him to get off work. I haven't been back there in ages...

There's a terazzo remnant of an Andes at Pulaski & Lawrence. Does anyone remember going to that one? http://www.flickr.com/photos/randoymwords/5538106021/

So that "triangle" was industrial for a long time. The donut shop must have went up in the 60's? Something for another day, perhaps.

The writer Eugene Field is buried behind the Church of The Holy Comforter in Kenilworth: http://www.flickr.com/photos/randoymwords/5992124171/ I also recommend the Daggit family cemetery in Highland Park. It's on Lake/Cook road just east of the Metra line: http://www.flickr.com/photos/randoymwords/sets/72157627717153482/

So, I've finally gotten around to photographing the old service station across from Wrigley Field on Belmont (It's in the Forgotten Chicago feed). I thought it may be the last good chance before all the crazy development kicks in around that triangle. Anyway, I'm surprised that I've failed to find any vintage reference shots online. I'm still poking around, but for something that's in such a hi

I was curious about the Dunning line going through Mt. Olive Cemetery. When I was exploring the area, I noticed the gate where the line would have went through. Was someone from the cemetery out there on freight days to open the gates? and I don't supposed any bodies were delivered by train the way they were in Rosehill?

Interesting. I used to live by Addison & Forest Preserve and never realized that the line shifted at Hiawatha Park. I've walked the boundary INTO the city, but not out of it. I suppose if you follow the line south to the portage, you'd pass by the burial mounds in Elmwood Park.

huh. So I wouldn't be able to pick it up north of the Lincolnwood mall anymore, if Evanston has turned it all over to development. I've been using a ten year old street atlas that still shows it as a rail line. That leaves me with looking for traces, I suppose. I could probably explore some of the industrial spurs around Howard, across from the CTA yards; there are still some older factory buildi

I hiked part of the abandoned line this summer. The city plans to turn part of the spur into an actual walking trail (as they have with the branch that runs north to Devon from Bryn Mawr near Kostner), but for now, it is fairly wild in places and takes one past industrial sites. I started at Elston and Kimberly, entering through a hole in the fence behind the K-Mart there. I trekked northeast to T

It isn't quite the same thing, but I just posted a photo of my Kraft miniature building paperweight on the Forgotten Chicago feed. I remember it as being the District Police station, perhaps we'd have more luck finding a photo that way? I'd like to see one myself so I can link to it for comparison... RJ
