Exchange Hotel was located on 92nd Street between Exchange Avenue and South Chicago Avenue across the street from the Columbus Monument (Drake Fountain) in South Chicago. It was torn down in 1973.

If you have a Chicago Public Library card you can access several newspapers on-line at no cast. In my opinion the best is the Chicago Tribune Historical Archive. Check with CPL to see if they have some type of reciprocal agreement with your local library.

There were several different types of WWII memorials. One type, common during the war was, I believe, called an Honor Roll. It listed names of servicemen and women from the block or neighborhood who were serving in the military. If individual was KIA a gold star designation was common.
