The EL you are probably thinking of was the CTA line that ran in the alley along the North side of 22nd street. The El operated as far west as Oak Park Ave until 1951. There was NEVER an El line that went to Brookfield Zoo. The Blue and White Streetcars were the West Town Company cars, and they operated until 1948. Oh yes as for the old freight line about 6500 west ... This line provided supplies to the State Hospital. It dead-ended within the Hospital property with several switching tracks. I do have a schedule from 1900 that also shows 3 or 4 PASSENGER trains daily - to Dunning State Hospital. The tracks North of Roscoe were removed in the 60's. The Building was INDEED was a CTA sub station for the trolleybus lines. Narragansett trolleybus started service in the 1930's and operated between North Ave and Irving Park RD. Although Narragansett stopped running trolleybuses in 1953, the poles carrying the heavy black feeder lines remained to power Diversey, Belmont and Irving Park Lines.
