My wife's grandmother and her husband owned one that was hidden behind a furniture store on the 800 n block of Ashland. We have a photo of them behind the bar and a couple of guys sitting there with beers. The story goes that Capone was trying to hustle them for payoff money and before they paid him off he ended up in jail and they closed the bar and moved to the northwest side...

Wow...I this is amazing because I have searched for ANYTHING on this topic and usually nothing. I too worked there in '79 and left for a year and came back in 1981 for another period until I made it known I wanted to move up...Well, their asst. managers weren't making nearly enough for me to raise a family on.
