Adresses are so difficult to concoct, but I would just say this! The first street west of Pulaski, on Addison, is the street if I remember correctly! They are all "K's", Kildare, Keating, keeler, Keystone, etc. The address would have to be about 3610 N. Pulaski, or Kildare, on either of those street Alleys! Good Luck! It has been years, so excuse my memory! It was in the Pulaski/Addison

Yes, I thought of that too! The site had to be about 200 years old, or so! It was very interesting how pristine the chips looked! The tree overhang must have sheltered those chips from the rain and storms, though in that "neck-of-the-woods," it was heavily forested, as it is still today! It was a "Chance" discovery that I will always cherish!

No, it wasn't Beaubien! It might come to me one day! In my short conversation with the woman, I didn't even get a chance to verify her last name! But the family was well known in the Lawrence and Pulaski avenue area! But she did indicate that I was talking to that old settler's relative!

I saw an old home movie, supposedly near Addison and Kimball, or thereabouts, taken when the area was still dirt roads and mostly underbrush! There were two bicyclists moving ahead a bit, on a dirt path, but the film only lasted about 2 minutes at the most! It must have been taken in the 1890s sometime! I tried to find it again, but couldn't! Has anyone seen that film? Tom

Pardon me! The mound is in Portage park, the Park itself, not the area! The mound can be seen Just North of Irving Pk. rd., on Long...just to the left before you hit Berteau! I jumbled it up quite a bit this time, but Portage Park at that point is known to all North siders! I shgould have re-read the post before I posted it...My mistake! Now, since you, the_mogra seems to know about things such as

Now the last time I explored the alleys was at least 20 years ago, and it is now 2015! Now a driver would have to go West on Addison and Pulaski, then go east on Waveland a few blocks west of that point! I hope those barns are still there, but no guarantees are made! The one Barn fronted the East side of the ally going South from Waveland, meaning that either kildare or one of the other nearby Nor

Hello, Names are forgotten, but I learned that an old settler bought a Log Cabin from an American Indian way back in the Early 1800s.. The Cabin was located in the vicinity of Springfield, (Maybe Hamlin,) and 1 block South of Foster Avenue, right near the Northwest corner! My curiosity prompted me to ask around a bit until I talked to an old timer back in the 1980s, who lived in the area all his l

Just North of Narragansett and long in Portage Park, there is short stretch of mound that parallels long Avenue! It only runs about 50-60 feet or So, and is visible as you travel North on Long just before Berteau, right in Portage Park!! Now it is known that a terminal moraine exists on Montrose just North of Narragansett, and runs North and South, and that Glacial retreats are known to have left

What the heck are they? I didn't want to divulge the spot fearing scavenging or looting, but my thirst for answers leaves me with no alternative! Going west on Touhy Avenue just West of Chicago, and just before the Highway overpass, you will see the last of the really small Forest preserves on the North side of Touhy! After parking, I walked about one full block North until I reached an old Dam!

I meant go South in those alleys! Also respect property rights! Owners might think you are robbers if you get out of your car and look around!

OK, on the NE corner of Elston and Kedzie is an old 3 story Apt. building. built in the 1880s I suppose! It might be older because another old 3 story Wooden building was on the SE corner of Albany and Elston was very Old as old Art used to say! Art was a 3700 block resident since the 1910s, and he said that that building was "Old" even when he was a kid! That building has been replaced

13. Barns
You folks have got to see what I am about to disclose? OK., go to the corner of Addison and Pulaski, Chicago North side, (Reference point,) then go North on Pulaski to Waveland avenue! (One Block) Go west on Waveland and start driving down each of the next 3-4 Alleys going North to about Addison! You will see a number of old barns, a couple of them in pretty bad shape! Preferably in daylight, get

I remember hearing about a Picnic Grove on Elston avenue, about 1 to 1 1/2 blocks SE of Albany Avenue? There is a fairly new Fire Station on that site now! It is all fenced in, (Always was,) but I thought it might have been a Picnic Grove long before I heard the scuttlebutt! In the distance on California Avenue, the Commonwealth Edison building now stands, and it was supposed to be a farm until ab

Anyway, just thought of something that was very exciting to me! As I was walking along the old Cicero avenue railroad tracks, just North of Foster, I saw a little old walking path just past the bridge! As I walked along the path that traversed a little gorge, I saw a pretty old tree that just kind of leaned toward the gorge! Looking down, I saw dozens of chips, or flakes, just lying beneath the tr

I used to dig holes in our backyard at 3707 N. Kedzie in the mid 50s, just to find something that would excite the explorer in me! Digging about Halfway between the front sidewalk & the alley, right next to Mr. L------i's fence, I dug about 8 inches deep when I found about 3 round pieces of sandstone, each with a long narrow hole through the diameter of it! I immediately knew it was part of a

Back yard relics! At 10-13 ys/o, at 3707 N. Kedzie ave., one of my past times was digging-up the backyard, not only to plant veggies & grass, which I often did, but just to feel the excitement of discovery! After the dog and brothers used the backyard for playing around, I felt no harm done! Well one day while twitching my nose for places to dig, I decided to dig about halfway between the fron

When we moved from the old neighborhood (Grand & Ashland,) we moved to 3707 N. Kedzie (No longer there)! But from the back yard, we would watch the fireworks show every July 4th., then go with a couple of guys to find some unexploded fireworks! But another question someone might know something about! Right on the Northeast corner of Belmont & Western, was an old wooden 2 story structur
