If you check the Historic aerials, as late as 1962 it was part of a ring road connecting the parking lots for the MSI. In the 1972 aerial the west side of the bridge seems to just peter off into trails.

That is the Central Market Furniture Building. It was sort of an early Merchadise Mart for furniture, A number of furniture companies had their show rooms there.

If by flatiron, you mean a triangular building, then yes I have been in dozens of them. Every diagonal street will have two to four of them at each intersection. Milwaukee ave is littered with them. The big question is what you mean by "was it an unusual experience?" It's not like a funhouse in there. They're pretty much like any building interior, except the have a couple of rooms

To the best of my knowledge, any view from the public way is fair game. From time to time, you might get hassled by property owners or security personal but they don't have a legal leg to stand on. Print a copy of this and read it. Photographers rights Reproduction would probably not be an issue unless you were photographing a work of art that might be separately copyrighted or protected und

While rummaging around the tribune's archives I ran across a reference to a neighborhood called "Bullshead" which I had never heard of. Due to the vague references in the article it was either near Bucktown or near Pilsen. Does anyone know? I found in an article about Clem Graver, a state rep and 21st ward rep committeeman who was kidnapped from his home in the summer of '53 an

Gutmann was on the south side of Webster and the east bank of the river. Back in the eighties when they were building the theater and shopping center next door to them The scuttlebutt was that someone made Gutmann's a big offer for their property. The company was getting the hairy eyeball from the EPA and under a lot of pressure from offshore competition. The way the story goes is that the hei
