When I was growing up in West Town it was a Sunday morning ritual after going to 9AM mass at Holy Innocents we'd stop at DeMar's at Paulina & Chicago for breakfast and then hit the Hub bakery for fresh bread and pasteries on the way home.

I remember both crashes as well. If you go on e-bay do a search of Chicago Police Helicopter. There are several pictures of both crashes from the Tribune along with PR pictures of the CPD helicopters. Sadly there is a picture from 1958 of Officer Baldy and another officer posing next to the WGN copter announcing the beginning of radio traffic reports.

The Southeast Corner of Fullerton & Cicero from early 80's to the early 90's was a walk up & drive up for Cragin Federal Savings. I worked for them from 1985 thru the take over by LaSalle Bank (ABN-AMRO) until I was laid off in 2007 when they were bought by Bank of America. The location was closed and relocated to 5525 W. Diversey.

Congress Bowl on Milwaukee Ave. had bowling alleys on the 2nd & 3rd floors. Marina City Bowl was on the second floor of the smaller building besides the towers.

My memory is kinda fuzzy, but I seem to recall in the late 60's they had some kind of facility in the Ogden/Grand Ave. area. We thought it was cool to walk by when they had the overhead doors open and see them working on Christmas displays and snag stuff from their dumpsters.

In High school I started as a stock boy at the Oakley Pharmacy (Chicago & Oakley), then as an Andy Frain Usher. Graduating High School I worked at Weiboldt's, Schwinn Bicycle Co., Oscar Mayer & Co., Bankers Life & Casualty, Cragin Federal Savings, Which was bought out by LaSalle Bank and in turn Bank of America who laid me off (along with 6,000 other employees in Illinois and Michigan)

Rusty, could you please look up Joseph or Josef Kaczynski for an adress on Haddon or the 1800 block of W. Huron? I remember as a kid in the 60's living at 1825 W. Huron St. (MOnroe 6-4912). My Mother told me before I was born in 1957 they had lived at two other Addressses in the 1800 block and when they came to Chicago after the war they lived on Haddon Ave.. Thank you!

I remember the Hub bakery in the 1700 block of Chicago Ave. it was next door or one door down from the Hub Theater. There was another bakery further east on the south side of Chicago Ave. It was under where the old El tracks were. both places had great rye bread and rolls.
