My earlier source had a typo. The cemetery was associated with Congregation Kehilath Jacob Anshe Drohiczen, not "Keheleth." Apparently, Benny Goodman was a member. There's a small Christian cemetery nearby on the west side of Shermer Rd. almost across the street from the Shermer-side access to the strip of land I'm talking about. The fenced-off area is a strip of land running west-east between Shermer and Waukegan south of Dempster and just north of Main Street. (In landmark terms, south of Classic Bowl, north of Lavitt Animal Hospital (which both have Morton Grove addresses) and west of that nursing home on the peninsula where Caldwell meets Waukegan.) Anyone know the legal status of the old, abandoned Jewish cemetery near the intersection of Waukegan and Shermer? Growing up in Niles in the '70s, my friends and I used to play in the "old cemetery."
