The Forum was a great place, the last of the cafaterias where you could get a complete meal for a good price. The YMCA at 800 S Wabash was another. There were several steak houses, cafateria style, around State & Randolph, near the Chicago Theater, the Oriental and the State-Lake. You could take a date for dinner and a movie and not be broke. The last to close was Ronnie's on Randolph.

Montefiore is where they sent you if you relly messed up. If you graduated from Montefiore your diploma had the name of the school that you came from, not Montefiore. A diploma from there would be like a diploma from Joliet!

Before sodium vapor lights the street lights were white. But above each fire alarm box the light was yellow, to mark the box location. Most boxes were removed because of all the false alarms.

There are some places where you can see old trolly tracks in the pavement. One is 56th St between Blackstone and Lake Park. The trolly station on Lake Park is now the Hyde Park Historical Society.

The Nike missiles were not from WWII, but the cold war era starting in the 50's. A radar site at Promentary Point in Hyde Park was removed in 1972.

I always thought it was MULberry. I took a picture of the sign yesterday and had the meatloaf at the Two Way grill down the block at Pulaski and Elston. The Elmont Tavern and the customers look as old as the sign! Not sure how to upload a picture here, I will attach it to a message to the editor.
