The Lutheran church PHILC refers to became Santa Maria Addolorata in 1931. A fire destroyed an earlier Santa Maria. I also believe it was at May and Erie, across from De leo's grocery. Both were torn down, to make way for the Northwest expressway (Kennedy). De Leo's then opened the restaurant at Central and Elston, and the church rebuilt at Ohio and Ada.

Before there was a DiLeo's restaurant, the brothers had a butcher shop/grocery. If I can remember it was located at May & Huron Sts. I believe it then moved to May & Ohio Sts. This was at the time the neighborhood was being torn down for the Northwest expressway.

West Town wrote I think there was a Community store on the Northwest corner of Chicago Ave. & Hermitage. The Community store was East of Paulina next to the failed City Savings and loan(a story of it's own). The Northwest corner of Chicago & Hermitage had an old A&P grocery, later a discount shoe store.

Actual there are three buildings one is in the back. From what I heard, when I was young my friends Father took title to those buildings. It was some kind of a trade for the 1147 Superior building and one on Chicago ave. Also some time later their older brother bought the building across the alley facing Huron st.
