Bunny Hutch. I don't know if they still have it, but I know in the 80s they did. I grew up on burgers and Green River there. And video games, mini golf, and batting cages!

I grew up on Central PK and Peterson, and the drag races there were legendary. Heading west on Peterson from Central Pk to Pulaski. It'd keep us up at night. Incredibly loud. Eventually in front of the Felician College driveway they left a ramp, like a rise in the street of a foot or two, which sort of curtailed it. Otherwise there was also Chicago and Kilpatrick which we'd venture to and wat

Oh the TB Sanitarium. Where do I begin. I grew up across the street, the 6000 block of Central PK, in the 80s. I'm much much younger than many of you, but hold the history of my youth and city quite dear to my heart, and am glad to have a forum to share my memories. My parents were holding out on buying the house we'd eventually occupy until they knew that Peterson Park wouldn't be converted t

Agreed. I'd much rather hand over my money to see a film to this establishment than some cookie cutter big corporation AMC or something. Let's hope maybe the Uptown can open sometime in the future! I never got to experience it, but from the things I've read and the pictures I've seen, it was majestic in all of it's glory. Jam Entertainment owns it now, we'll see what they do with it.

A cool little fact, Logan Square was home to the family which started Jefferson Ice. " This boulevard system was home to some of the best known families of Chicago, such as Schwinn, Ryan, Wieboldt, Rath and the owners of the Jefferson Ice Company. Yeah Mornac, I used to go there time to time if I was out west. Wasn't really part of our lil neighborhood per se though. We'd venture that way if we were heading to Caldwell woods, but that's about it, not much to do in that direction for us kids at that time. One of my first jobs was nearby in one of the office buildings. Didn't realize they aren't there anymore, I don't get out that way much th

Remember in Glengarry Glen Ross when Jack Lemmon was talking about his old days at the dealerships on Western? Awesome reference.

My grandfather, Fred Orehek, was the assistant editor and top political reporter for the Chicago Tribune in the 60's and 70's, and he even had an office in City Hall. He passed before I was born, but as legend has it, he helped to get a church saved, I forget where it was exactly, but if I drive down 90/94 I can point it out (it's been a while since I drove it.) I guess he was able to help to lobb

We had two that'd we'd frequent in my neighborhood, Bunny Hutch (which is still in operation surprisingly, and Diversions, behind Lincoln Village. The first Diversions was two stores down from the Super Gap (now a chinese buffet) and next to FlipSide record shop. Then a few years later after opening there they moved to the old Sizzler building (right before that it was a short lived retro kinda re

As a kid growing up in Peterson Park in the 80s, I think we were the very last generation to actually have neighborhood pharms. There were two in my neighborhood, Crane's, on Peterson and Bernard, and Mels, off of Pulaski and Devon. I remember going to Crain's to get packs of baseball cards, for 40 cents. Years later all packs of cards would cost $2 to $3! The packs of Tops with the gum in them! L

Also, off the beaten path so to speak, behind Peterson Park is the North Park Nature Center, which has a pond. It's technically not part of the park system, but it's easily accessible during business hours. But of course as kids, we'd sneak in at all hours. Never fished it though (fishing wasn't really a thing to do in my neighborhood) but we'd go back there and play capture the flag and stuff. An

I remember going to the Fluky's on Western, and they had an old yellow "central park" sign, which I thought was the coolest thing since that's where I lived. Except I lived on N Central Pk, and the sign was S Central Pk, but still, I thought it was the coolest thing ever as a kid, seeing our street sign there.

I remember Rockin Reds on Foster and Kimball back in the early 90s. The owner, Red, was cousins with Howie Mandel, and he also owned the Tastee Freeze next door to the record store. I got to meet Howie there in about '91, really nice guy! And Red used to let us cut class and play video games in the back and wouldn't care. It was like our sanctuary. I also remember a Flipside by the old Diversi

Hi all, I'm looking for any information regarding a department store that used to be at 2774 N Milwaukee Ave, off of Kimball, called "Niesners." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neisner's Currently there is a "Lot Stores" red awning in front of the building. In the 50's and 60's, my grandparents ran a chicken shop inside of it. They sold whole chickens, and from what my
