There was the Old Town Pump (wells/eugenie) and the Gate of Horn (Dearborn/Chicago?? Memry fails)...are you by chance conflating the two names? There was also Quiet Knight (on Wells? Or Sedgwick? before moving to Belmont) And a club I cant recall the name of, in the building behind the Mexican restaurant, on Sedgwick, just south of Armitage.

PR person for London house and other Marienthal enterprises in the early 60s was a woman named Arlyne (yes, y) Rothberg. She's still around and involved in show business on the west coast -and on facebook. She might be a good research source for you.

Does anyone have any recollection of horses stabled in the 1900 block of hudson ave? I'd forgotten about all the riding activity in the area (and my brief time riding' ended when i got so tall, my feet dragged on the lincoln park ponies (-; .....but at the mention of riders making the trek from nearby stables into the park, it came back in a rush and i could "hear" the clip clops.

We were a MIchigan 2 number, a northside prefix, but somehow often got wrong numbers for a southside walgreens. They might have been MIdway 3 with the same 4digits as ours. My first all-number phone was 66x-6x66....always thought it was a good thing i didn't lisp.

Don,t know abt drains or key stations, but backing up on this thread, i skated at fullerton/sheffield as well. Also the lincoln park lagoon, among my fondest mem'ries. In the pics, the building w the big round turret....on Halsted, is it? Or somewhere along lincoln avenue? This is a great site....such nostalgia. Glad to have happened on it.

Schmeissings Bakery, about 2600 north on lincoln -now gone- was excellent. Also, nOt a bakery, per se...but there was a hole-in-the-wall coffee shop at grand and wells that served a dedicated clientele of mostly blue-collar workers in the surrounding area. It was open from like 5 am to about 2 or 3pm and the owner used to show up in the even earlier hours to start baking. He made all his own -

Leies bros. On larrabee at armitage was a longtime fixture. But before 45s, you'd listen to the latest 78rpm in the listening booths. Now, its a firehouse, engine co. 22, i think.
