Yes, there were bottle refunds, at least through the mid 80s. I worked at a Dominicks in 1985 and part of my job was too take all the returned bottles and put them in wooden crates for coke and pepsi to pick up. There was a spot in the back room just for the stacks of bottle crates.

That's right, my grandmother lived on the little side street, Haft, where the Pope cut over from Nagle to Milwaukee. The Pope's security had to come and check out my grandmother's house earlier that day.

Yes, Mill Run was also a good place for grade school field trips. Went there a couple of times, saw the Hobbit there. They also had a movie theater at the other end, I think it's some X fitness store or something now, but back in the 70s, there was a big movie theater, had 3 big screens, balconies and in the lobby area they actually had an area where you could watch TV. I remember watching Re

The one at Harlem and Foster was called Just Games, when they switched from quarters to tokens they had a special on Tuesdays, 10 tokens for a dollar. they had an old mechanical baseball game, lots of pinball and then later stuff like space wars, space invaders, pac man, zaxxon, rally x, frontline, armor attack, tempest, centipede...

Yeah, I watched the Bob Luce shows too, loved the TV commercials he did for Ben's Auto, they never could get through one without cracking up. Dick the Bruiser, the Crusher, Ernie Ladd, the Blackjacks, Sailor Art Thomas, the original Sheik, Ivan Kohloff.... Had to watch a bunch of bad matches to get to the match of the day.

Cock Robin was a favorite of mine, it used to be called Prince Castle. They had shops all over the city at one time. Best malts around. Also had square ice cream scoops. Some of the bigger ones served food too, wasn't bad. I remember shops in Niles, Villa Park, Glenview, Naperville, River Grove, and Brookfield.

Anyone remember juke box saturday night on Lincoln avenue in Chicago? it was big in the late 80s and early 90s. Right in the DePaul neighborhood, had the front end of a car sticking out the front of the building. I had a lot of good times there with my buddies, I even met my wife there in 1989. Good oldies music, good people. My friends and I got in good with the owners, we used to sometimes

Speaking of commercials, i remember watching wrestling in the 70s. Bob Luce was the promoter and they had guys like dick the bruiser, the crusher, baron von raschke, yukon moose cholak....Anyway, they would do commercials for Ben's Auto, and they could never finish a commercial without cracking each other up. It was Bob Luce and a bunch of different wrestlers doing the commercials. they also di

That's the Henry's I used to go to as a kid, good food. I also remember the various Cock Robins throughout the city. I would go to the one on Milwaukee avenue just past Devon and Nagle, best malts around. I took my kids to Cock Robin when they were little too, was able to find a couple still around but I think they are all gone now. I remember it being called Prince Castle before Cock Robin an

does anyone remember a store called First Distributors? It was in Chicago, around Lawrence and Pulaski, It was some kind of outlet type store, I don't remember too much, just that it seemed big and had all kinds of consumer products, lamps, vacuums, etc. It later became a Dominicks but I think it is something else now.

We used to watch the Electric Company after lunch at Oriole Park school in the early 70s in Ms. Economus's class. She'd make us write down every word shown during the show and turn it in. At Palmer school on the northwest side, i remember in first grade, we'd eat lunch in the auditorium and if it was raining and we couldn't go outside after lunch they would wheel in a small TV so we could watch

I grew up on the northwest side of chicago in the 70s, (norwood park, edison park, Oriole park) and there was a corner store on Bryn Mawr ave., east of Canfield, called Midwest. Had the old wooden floors and Bazooka bubble gum was only 1 cent. Later it was raised to 2 cents and that bummed everyone out. there was another store, a little bigger, called Royal Blue, on Foster avenue, between harle

Anyone remember a record store on Harlem avenue, just south of Foster, called Record People. I used to hang out there in the 70s because of the girls that worked there.

I grew up in that area in 1973. There was also a Ground Round across the street from the mall and a bank Unity Savings, right next to the mall, they used to sponsor Oriole Park baseball, i still have a windbreaker jacket from them. Not too far from there was harlem foster mall, with a Jewel and Turn Style and a Jo Jos where Bakers Square is now, but my favorite part was the Just Games, which was

It wasn't a Red Barn, it was a restaurant called Burger Farm and it was there in the early 70s, i used to go there with my grandparents. it was one of the first restaurants I remember that had an electric hand dryer in the bathroom. You can see the "silo" in the back, remodeled to be a circus tent, just like the main sign.
