Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't BELMONT BOWL (near Belmont and Lincoln, in what used to be the Belmont Theatre) also a second-floor alley?

There used to be a tiny building at Harlem and Irving (next to the police station), that was once a radio station. I think it was WOPA. Anybody remember that building or have pictures of it?

I grew up in what is now known as Roscoe Village. Does anyone have older pictures of any of the businesses on Roscoe, between Western and Damen, especially Hoffing's Dept. Store?

I remember that back in the 1960s, there was a newsstand on a tiny concrete "island" in the middle of the intersection of Belmont/California and Elston. It was almost like a tiny brick store with windows. Anyone else remember this or have pictures of it? The tiny island is still there, but there's nothing on it.

I have many fond memories of Rose Records. That was THE store to go to to find the record you wanted. They not only carried about the biggest selection of domestic records you could find in Chicago, they also carried a few imports, and that was sort of rare in those days. When I was a kid in the 'sixties, I would sometimes call up to see if they had a certain LP (and, because of my high voice back

There was a big laundry ("wet wash") service (the kind that used to pick up laundry from your home) that was on Diversey, a few blocks west of Damen, probably around Leavitt or Hamilton. They had aqua-colored delivery trucks with bubbles painted on the side. Does anyone remember the name of that laundry? I believe the building has been turned into condos now (like the old Dad's root Beer

As a kid, I lived on the 3400 block of N. Claremont. Next to us was an open lot. Well, not just an open lot; it was actually a tree-filled yard (it still is) that was the property of the people who owned the building just south of it. In the winter, one of the neighbors in that building would hook up a hose from the basement and flood the big yard to make a big ice skating rink.People in the house

I remember that Woolworth's. As I recall, by the late '70s/early '80s, the lunch counter was gone, but they still had the mezzanine, although now it was filled with shelves of merchandise.

To: Diogenes "Tomas also had a little location in the Lincoln Bank building at Irving, Damen, and Lincoln, right next to the elevator, always lots of goodies in the window." I'm pretty sure that the little bakery shop that was in the Lincoln/Damen bank building for a short while (in the '70s I believe) was actually a Heck's satellite store, not Tomas (which would make sense, as th

"Does anyone remember where Heck's bakery was located?' I wanted to say that there is still a bakery where Heck's used to be, on Roscoe near Seeley. It is now called Rudy's. I believe Rudy used to be a baker at Heck's, and later, when Heck's was closing, bought their recipes. Although not as all-around fantastic as Heck's (I think the butter content of the cookies is less, for instance),
