I remember that back in the 1960s, there was a newsstand on a tiny concrete "island" in the middle of the intersection of Belmont/California and Elston. It was almost like a tiny brick store with windows. Anyone else remember this or have pictures of it? The tiny island is still there, but there's nothing on it.

As a kid, I lived on the 3400 block of N. Claremont. Next to us was an open lot. Well, not just an open lot; it was actually a tree-filled yard (it still is) that was the property of the people who owned the building just south of it. In the winter, one of the neighbors in that building would hook up a hose from the basement and flood the big yard to make a big ice skating rink.People in the house

"Does anyone remember where Heck's bakery was located?' I wanted to say that there is still a bakery where Heck's used to be, on Roscoe near Seeley. It is now called Rudy's.
