I was only 2 years old at the time and my family had just moved from Belden and Western to Belmont and Oak Park in Chicago. I heard about it growing up all the time.

I have researched this fire for many years. It is commonly accepted that it was set by an arsonist and burned for nearly 40 minutes before being noticed.The roof on the school had multiple layers and collapsed shortly after CFD arrived. It is the third worst fire in Chicago history. The fire dept. was hampered by a locked couryard and only one fire escape. 92 students died along with 3 nuns. The

you have a good memory. Marcoe Pharmacy was on the southwest corner across from Dwyer Pharmacy. Marcoe was a Rexall Drugs while Dwyer was a Les On Drug store. I worked at both in the 1970,s as did my mother. Jim Dwyer owned one while a jewish lady owned the other. Cherrios resturant was next door.

Frazier Thomas did have an extremely large train set. I beleive O gauge.My uncle owned Devon HobbyModels in Chicago and Thomas would come in on sundays and pick up lots of supplies. This was the late 1960,s early 70,s.

My Dad Harry Adams owned Adams Drugs on Belden and Western until he died in 1970. Frank Horwitz bought it after that and owned it for many years.
