Does anyone remember a restaurant on Oak Street, between Michigan/Rush named "Isabelle's"? (Or something like that.) It was across the street from the Esquire Theatre and my aunt would take me there in the late 50's.

"Isbell's, 940 N Rush St, 950 W Diversey Parkway, and 1435 E Hyde Park Blvd. Take your choice of either of these fine restaurants. You will not be disappointed I am sure. the one on Rush St is,l I believe, the best for atmosphere. However, in all of them you will be served with the choicest of quality foods. Everything is neat and clean. They specialize in chicken, ribs, and charcoal broiled steak. Daily, 11:00 AM to 3:00 AM. Lunch 60 cents up. Dinner $1.00 up. AC,L [air-conditioned, liquor served]." From "Where to Eat and Sleep in Chicagoland" by Marie Pedderson, 1947.

a screen grab from "M-Squad" shows a Peter Pan Snack shop @ 50 E Oak, one door or two doors west of the Esquire.. "Oaks Club" could have been east of the Esquire @ 70 E Oak.
