Does anyone remember this, say back in the 60's? This popped into my head out of nowhere but I remember this on the Kennedy. I am also wondering what the purpose of this might have been.

Maybe red wan't the exact term I should have used, it was more pink-ish. I did find a pic that shows just a sliver of this on the right side. This isn't the best pic but it's the only one I found.

Remember them on the Ike in the 60's; Kostner ramp.

Probably the color of aggregate used in the asphalt.

Maybe intended as a visual warning of merging traffic lanes?

I remember them too, on the Ike, but they were resurfaced with blacktop. For exit/entrance lanes. Last red ones I saw were on the US 20 bypass X-Way in Elgin, which is like a trip back in time to old X-ways. I think gone now.

Still see this west on the Ike through some of the avenues.

"...Ike through some of the avenues" [Maywood area]

Ahh, that is where I remember seeing them too!
