There were many Chicago places that offered blues entertainment in the last 70 years that only locals knew about. The Fat Black Pussy Cat, the I Spy Lounge...etc. Got any that you know about that "aren't in the books"?

Those were mostly gone by the time I was born. However, I have a photograph of one of my cousins playing with a group at The Place Lounge, 63rd & Evans. It's not well-documented by any means - seems to have been in a storefront. Apparently Mike Bloomfield played there early on.

The old Checkerboard on 43rd was a hole in the wall, to be sure. In fact, the east wall eventually collapsed.

--The only Blues joints I knew of on Sheridan were Biddy Mulligans at Howard street and Minstrel's Pub in the Granada theater building by Loyola. Minstrel's wasn't exclusively Blues - they also had Folk and Rock nights.

Anybody got any pictures of the old 1815 club that was at 1815 W. Roosevelt (Roosevelt and Wood). It was a well known West side blues joint before the entire neighborhood was leveled and tranformed.

@ genes3@comcast.net, I can remember a bar called Edna's Place on Sheridan Road. I believe it was on the west side of the street around Columbia Ave. Didn't it have a big yellow sign with it's name on it?
