If you ever pass by the Elston and Montrose intersection you'll see an old neon sign for the Elmont Bar, with it's old number on there. I'll try and grab a picture of it and post it later this week.

PS- if you're in the area keep going west on montrose and eat at Suzie's, one of the best drive in's on the northwest side!

El-mont Liquors number is MUL-1666 (which I think is "Mulligan"-1666), if anyone wants to call ahead for a quart of Schlitz, the bar and liquor store are still there!

I've got a pic of this one. I'm waiting to get another 10-12 before I put up another page of old numbers.

Sorry for the low quality, this is just a proof scan -

I also have pics of Susie's kicking around somewhere. I believe they have good milkshakes, right?

That they do. Over 60+ flavors, which have probably doubled since I was there last.

I think MU stands for Mulberry not Mulligan. The comments on SH standing for Sheldrake were very funny. I grew up in East Rogers Pk and we had an SH number. I knew it meant Sheldrake but never questioned the connection.

I always thought it was MULberry. I took a picture of the sign yesterday and had the meatloaf at the Two Way grill down the block at Pulaski and Elston. The Elmont Tavern and the customers look as old as the sign!

Not sure how to upload a picture here, I will attach it to a message to the editor.

In the future, it will be "Oh look an old 312 # sign in Rogers Park", etc...

I love giving out my telephone number in the old style, with the prefix name and four numbers. Drives people crazy. Have had the same phone number since 1953 so have a number that did originally have a named prefix.

Our old phone number was Hemlock 4-2268 and it was a party line back in the 50's. Our next number was Ludlow 5- 8690. It's amazing that I remember our first two phone numbers and not the next 10+ numbers in my life. LOL
