There is a strange, circular building on the southwest corner of Roosevelt/Halsted. Does anyone know what it is?

The structure right on the corner is not really a building. It's kind of a gazebo/water fountain.

It's officially called the "UIC Skyspace". It was built as a sort of public art installation.

Our associate Robert has an excellent photograph of this...thing. Apparently, it is best viewed at dusk as it supposedly has the effect of warping one's relationship to the sky, almost the reverse of the trompe l'oeil oculi seen in Renaissance painting. But hey, don't believe the hype, it is no replacement for Maxwell street.
