WHEN I WAS A KID AND WE GOT INTO AN ALTERCATION [PROBABLE AFTER SCHOOL FIGHT] WE WOULD TELL THEM TO MEET US AT THE CORNER OF MARY AND HOEY,OF COURSE HOPING THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND IT! One is across from "bubbly creek" and the other is three blocks away in Bridgeport.

It had loads of animal waste/matter on the riverbed, decaying. It ran to a canal
that served the Union Stockyards, long since filled in (including an old swing bridge).
And there was a big fire at the Union Stockyard, but I don't remember the details since it was before my time.

Pretty good!
The animal waste was dumped into the "south branch of the Chicago river" by the soap factory right there on the bank. That horse/pig animal waste left over from soap rendering would simk and over time, release methane bubbles.
My family ran the tavern right across from there.
The fire was on the bak of the river, one block south of 33rd st, an old trainers caused an enormously tall fire that could be seen for miles.
Old Bridgeport lore, lots of fun.

The big fire was not at the stockyards but the grain elevator near the river by the railroad tracks. I have original pictures of it. It was started by a guy named Tino RIP who never was caught for starting it - but word got around fast in Bridgeport and still does!
