I've been researching my childhood neighborhood and have this list of stores, business and institutions that were located on Bryn Mawr between Kedzie and Bryn mawr. It spans late 1950s through the end of the 1970s. There are couple that go back earlier, and two are still operating at the same location.

Nearly all have Bryn Mawr addresses but some have Kedzie or Kimball right off Bryn Mawr. I'm still working on the addresses. Anyone have additional information about these businesses? Or any I've missed? Thanks.

I always wondered what occupied Midori Restaurant and adjoining bar @ 3310 w Bryn Mawr

I attended Camelot Pre-School, on Bryn Mawr across from Peterson Elementary. It was in the late '70s so I don't know the exact address but it may be 3342 W., which looks like it's still in use as a daycare facility.

There's still a couple of places that are still open on the list
-Biltmore cleaners is still there
-CV Diner is still there too, until about 2 years ago it was still called C&V but now it's called the Elston Grill.
-Tong's Tea Garden is still a Chinese restaurant but it's called Hunan Wok now, which is really popular with local NEIU kids
The Hollywood Bar is still there and kicking, last year they celebrated 75 years of business.
-Mary Gage Peterson Elementary School is still there as well, in fact they had to expand because of the huge student population the school currently has.
-Beck's Book store is still in the neighborhood but is currently on the Northeastern Illinois University campus. The former building it was in on Kedzie and Bryn Mawr is currently a hair salon.
-Davis Imperial Cleaners is still there as well
-Certified Grocery Store is now Lawrence Fruit Market
-Bryn Mawr Hardware is currently a Korean video store
-Lex's Bike is currently a Korean restaurant called Chikaraishi & Chikaraishi

In fact most of the area around Bryn Mawr and Kedzie is Korean, it's the new Koreatown since it moved up from Lawrence/Kimball in the mid 90's.

Thanks for the update. I learned that Peterson has been overcrowded several times. First, overcrowding at Peterson was the reason Solomon school was built. In the early baby boomer years, Peterson seventh and eighth graders were sent to the Von Steuben Upper Grade Center. Not sure when that ended but by the late sixties when I was in seventh grade we were back at Peterson. We had around 40 in a class, so it was still pretty crowded. Either the school was too small or the boundaries have been too big.

Camelot Pre-School was located at 3340 W. Bryn Mawr. I have a family connection to that address, although it dates back to before I was born. Before Tong's Tea Garden was built at 3411 W. Bryn Mawr in December of 1954, my family operated a Chinese take out called "The Lee" located at 3340 W. Bryn Mawr. My grandfather bought the business from a Mr. Lee in 1946, and it was operated by him, my grandmother, my father, and my aunt, with some help from a family cousin. During the post World War II housing shortage, my grandfather, a World War II veteran, lived in an Army GI trailer, formerly located at the site of what is now Northeastern Illinois University. After the trailer camp closed down (around 1947), my grandparents, father, and aunt commuted daily from Chinatown (18 miles away) to Bryn Mawr Avenue for 363 days a year to operate The Lee (closed only on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day).

According to documents I read at one of Peterson School open houses, 7th and 8th graders returned to Peterson in 1963. By 1964, when I started kindergarten, Peterson was a K-8 school again, housing 9 grades in one building.

I am looking for anyone with any info about Dutch Mill Candies, listed on Fran's list on Bryn Mawr. I have some floral prints which I believe were given as a premium with their candy.
