Living in the Back of the Yards we had alot of prairies or empty lots in the neighborhoods. We use to go spider hunting and put them in jars. Back then you had many banana spiders (yellow and black). We found diamond backs with red diamonds on their back. Daddy long legs, you name it. It crawled we caught it.

I used to scavenge for old radios and clocks, to tear apart. Never got a chance to restore any of them, as my mother had me throw them out after discovering them.

How about looking for soda bottles for 2 cents return at any tavern or grocery store in the 50's. How else could you buy candy when your 6yrs old. LOL

We were good kids in the Back of the Yards, however raiding gardens were fun things to do.
