Im looking for people who worked at Marshall Fields on State Street in the second basement pneumatic Tube Room or know someone who did. It was in operation from at least 1947 to about 1983. I worked there as a teenager and trying to gather stories , photos and any information.

I worked for Marshall Fields tube room. I believe it was in 79'. There was a money scandal in the tube room. The manager and a female employee stole over $25,000. Lie detecter tests were given to all the employee's. I also worked the late shift picking up from the stores safes after the store closed. A large cart was used to deposit the currency bags with a security escort. It was a cool job for a high school teenager.

The Diana Ross movie "Mahogany" filmed quite a few scenes at Marshall Field's on State, many of them in employee only areas, not sure if the tubes are seen but you should check it out. The movie is beyond terrible but the Field's scenes are at the beginning so you don't have to sit through the whole thing.
I worked at State Street briefly circa 1979. They hired a bunch of teens to put the white plastic alarm things on clothing. Speaking of thieving employees-we had to tag a ton of very expensive clothes in back that were going to be returned to the mfr. but employee theft was so bad they had to tag it even though it wasn't on the sales floor anymore. Later they brought in mirrored columns that they placed around the store. These were two way mirrored hollow columns we were supposed to hide inside and watch for people stealing. I left at that point.
