Concerning Photobucket or Flickr, is either one of them MORE user friendly than the other or are they both about the same? Ive used Flickr but, for me, it is a bit time consuming to really operate also it can be technically ambiguous (for me that is)

Thank you so much everyone for the CORRECTION. With those two n/e corners being so near each other I drive past them on a daily basis. Each time that i do drive thru the Irving park intersection I would take notice of that corner thinking that was Mr Dee's. Of course i would correct myself thinking that Mr Dee's was back at Belmont. Now to find out i was completely mistaken..wow. A senior moment

Hello all. It was a great pleasure to have met everyone at the book signing!! It was too bad that we had to leave as early as we did. Im glad to hear that the visiting crowd grew. We are ENJOYING our copy of the 'Near South Side' book. There are tons of Childs photographs to review and love. They depict old world Chicago long gone. Its as close as we will ever get to stepping back in time.

Ok I have a real good one..A friend of ours, who is in her 80s, went to JLS as a child and remembers that in the school basement they had a few bowling lanes which required manual pinsetters. She and her peers would like to see any old pictures that may still exist.

hi Frank , yes i would say that the manhole is in the front of the building. Could it be that there is a rod of some sort underneath the extension?

Your comment made me think of its direction Bwalsh . It does 'point' to the location of the street sewer. Maybe thats it. What do you two think

Ive got it. That intersection is the northeast corner of BELMONT and NARRAGANSETT. It later became 'Cafe Tacuba' which is now out of business. The huge billboard is gone too. Bring back Mr D's !

Would anyone know what the reason would have been for the concrete extension from the sewer's base as they did? The manhole is well within the property line and just a few feet away from the building itself. I would imagine that the concrete was laid when the building was erected in 1926.

Nothing to do with CHICAGO i know. I've been a devoted NPR listener for eons now. NPR correspondent Robert Krulwich is great at what he does. I know my friends here will get a HISTORIC kick out of this topic at "Krulwich Wonders.." http://www.npr.org/blogs/krulwich/2010/09/20/129990964/once-in-a-lifetime-river-tour-starts-here-unfortunately-everybody-s-dead?ref=nf

That intersection has the 'red light camera' installed. Every once in a while ill see the camera flash when someone tries to beat the light. Thats a $100 fine friends.
