Old building at 63rd and Central

Not the one just torn down, this one was on the northeast corner of 63rd and Central.
does anyone remember what occupied the corner building where the tavern was
on the side facing Central and north of 63rd? I recall seeing some kind of diner there
when my parents took a ride to see the planes land at Midway. this would be between 1958-61.

There were a group of buildings on that corner which were removed in the early 60's, including a laundramat. Here are several photos of that corner at various dates:

[b]There was also a school building on the southewst side on airport property. I don't think the building was ever used. To dangerous I suppose.[/b]

The school building on the corner of the airport was called Hale School and was there from 1926 until it was closed in 1953. It was a full service school with a healthy enrollment but finally closed due to the increasing air traffic and eventually was moved to 61st and Melvina.
