What would've made this entire post somewhat moot is at one point the Cook Cty Highway dept wanted to build 294, from about 55 all the way up to O'Hare Field, along the 1st Ave/Cumberland right-of-way. Thankfully that didn't happen.

Anyone out there have the rough boundaries of the original Oak Park Country Club? It is of course currently in (not so aptly) Elmwood Park, but supposedly used to be located in present-day South Oak Park, in and around Jackson Blvd (hence the two "jogs) said street.

No doubt others will reply with deets on Western's complex per se, but Western's true "contribution" if you want to call it that, is the (in)famous Eastland disaster: http://www.eastlanddisaster.org/summary.htm

Anyone know the boundaries of the original Oak Park Country club...located roughly in South Oak Park? Supposedly said club is the reason that Jackson Blvd. jogs twice in Oak Park proper.

No, not directly on the NW corner, but a block west on North Ave, sort of in and adjacent to the tall condo building there. The Mercury used to be one of 3 theatres that served the Oak Park-River Forest-Elmwood Park-Galewood area, including the defunct Lamar theatre on 100 S. Marion in OP and the still-with-us Lake Theatre on 1000 W. Lake (7000 in Chi Street numbers) in Oak Park.
