You mentioned the Chapman brothers and I remember them well from hanging around Sonny,s drive-in on Harlem near the drive-in theater. I think it was Jim that had the black 51 chevy. Many a great race was launched from that place including a few that took off on Eden's expressway. We stood up on the Willow road overpass and watched them go under. The Chapman,s put an Olds V8 in my buddy Don Zack's

I think this was brought up before?, but i'm trying to find a picture of the outside front of the old church that was located at 923 w Ohio st. before being torn down for the Kennedy expressway. Thanks for any help. Historic aerials is down right now and I thought that would help. My main interest is the house that stood next door to the church. Geo.

I started Lane in 1947 and graduated in Jan. of 1951 and at the time I started they listed near 6000 at the school. If I remember correctly I started with about 1800 freshman. My graduating class was the smallest class to ever graduate from Lane, at 225 students.(just checked my yearbook) They did a lot of transferring during those years and many boundary changes. Geo.

Thanks on that. Does the Polk directory list a "Jerry's auto repair". My Grandfather owned the shop and I have a picture of him standing in front of it and also his business card with the address. He's standing with Peter Gusenburg who was shot in 1929 so I assume this is a few years before that?

Does anyone have any information on "Jerry's Auto Repair Shop" which was located at 2842 N. Clark St. back in the late 1920s??. Where could it be looked up? Thanks, Geo.

Regarding the Metro on Lawrence. The screen did back up to Lawrence, but you still entered from the front and walked up the isles with everyone facing you. Concessions were up in the back.

I worked directly across from Henrys drive in for 30+ years and we carried out food for lunch until it closed and "the goat" took it over to sell mini-bikes around 1970. He was a "Speedway" dealer for a long time. You could try them out in his parking lot. When the minibikes died out he started his junk business selling anything he could find. My boss tried to buy the place for

If your talking about the building just SE of kedzie on elston, its where Sportsman Inn tavern was located for many years, possibly still there. They had a flat roof that could have been used to view the old prairie. There was a golf driving range on the elston Addison SW corner for many years from back in the 1940s. Used to steal golfballs out in the fields. West of the golf range was also an Arc

We left Chicago in 61 but always remember the great pizza at Paternos, on western and grand. Still picture the old Italian guy hand tossing the dough at the counter right in front of you. Later they closed the pizza joint and concentrated on Paterno Imports next door.

If i remember correctly, it was the Logan that changed its name to the Mars. My theatre days were the 40s and 50s. I do remember that the Roundup which showed only cowboy movies used to have a place to check your cap guns near the concession counter. They were not allowed in the theater.

We spent our saturdays at the Comodore on irving park, the Revue on Elston, The Nita and Dale on Milwaukee near Central park, Dale later changed to the Roundup with all western movies, the Harding and Logan further south on Milwaukee past Kimball, and the Congress even further south. On lawrence we went to the Lawerence east of Kimball and the Metro right across the street with the backward screen

Thanks on that history. The one in Chicago that we went to in the 50s, i believe was owned or franchised by Charlie Thompson and if i remember right, his name was on the sign. A neat place for chicken served in a box with honey. Luv to know when it closed.

Anybody remember eating at "Chicken in the rough". I think it was on Diversey at Rockwell. Served a basket of chicken with honey to put on it.

Hmmmmmm!! Thinking back, my 82 year old mind tells me it was Cicero, not Caldwell. Hate to have you nit-pickers think that i purposely picked Peterson and CALDWELL. Any way, i was asking about the restaurant, not the intersection, so thanks for the 1974 date.

Anybody remember the Pie Pan restaurent at Peterson and Caldwell. Wondering what year they closed? Had a unique "Tablet" type of ordering system at the main counter which sent the info back to the kitchen and your order was delivered to your table. Great homemade pies.

Did you mean between "Riverview Park" and Addison? Mid City was a driving range west of Lane Tech even after the school was built.

My Dad covered up the beautiful upholstery in his 1969 Ambassador SST with that clear plastic crap and when the junkyard gave him a hundred bucks for the car in 1993, you could see through the rusted holes in the floor and trunk, but it still had that covered up upholstery that nobody had ever sat on. Nutty.

How many remember the HIP area before it was built? The drive-in theatre across the street and Sonny's drive in next door to the theatre. Great set-ups for the drag races that came out of there.

I grew up near the old Maurice Lenell plant on Belmont just west of Kimball. That neighborhood enjoyed the smell back then, and there was a great hotdog stand right next door on the side of the gas station.
