Does anyone remember Bulow's Hamburgers around 1953-1955 on Pulaski and 83rd street before there were gas stations nearby and before the strip mall. Best hamburgers, with real tomatoes and pickles and lettuce, and great buns.

Yes, on the southwest side we had the old man with rags for sale, and we also had the old man with the grinding wheel to sharpen scissors, knives. Seemed like once the snow went away, this was a sign of spring to see him in the middle of the street moving briskly and calling out from side to side each row of houses for attention, it did not happen after the late 1950's though. I was at the grand opening of the HIGH LOW in Hometown, ILLINOIS around 1953. It is still there, and some windows are bricked up and the Advocate doctors building occupies it. They had clowns dressed up at the opening, it was a big event, because the area was a food desert, only other nearby food store was National Tea. Does anyone remember this at 87th and southwest highway??

the basement of ABN amro was a wonderful cafeteria which was populated by practically all the employees who worked across the street at 125 south clark. Remember that this was a hospital to serve the booming population West of Holy Cross Hospital, visited several occasions, it was very 'cinder block' inside, and bare bones, seemed to serve only doctors who may have been practicing without all the credentials, just my opinion based on a doctor my family used for years

Laredo Lanes was the best. A great date place. A good walk to place, just for the hot dogs. When they were building it, you could still walk past the old Army surplus store near COlumbus and 85th.
