Does anyone remember a beef stand that used to sell beef sandwiches from an outside stand near a firehouse on one of the streets just south of Harrison in the Taylor Street neighborhood in the 50's and 60's. They had the best beef sandwiches. I heard that the owners later opened a beef stand somewhere east of expressway later but I don't know where.

I remember playing in leagues in Harrison Park in the 60's and 70's and Piotrowski Park in the 70's. I also played in a league in Bogan Park in the late 1970's and Margate in the 80's.In the 60's and 70's even many of the street gangs fielded teams in the park leagues.

My neighborhood theatre was the Illington on Cermak and Leavitt in Chicago. $.25 admission on Saturdays to see second run movies. It was, at one time, an old vaudville house and one of my neighbors used to tell me stories about performing there in opening acts when people like Bob Hope, Jack Benny appeared.

I remember the library in Gads Hill Center on the 1900 block of Cullerton Street. I used my library card there a lot growing up in the Pilsen neighborhood from the 50's through the early 70's.

Hung out in Old Town on Saturday nights in the late 60's and early 70's as a teenager. There was Peacock Alley just North of the entrance to Second City. There was That Steak Joynt, just beneath Second City. My wife and I ate there several times in the 70's. It always struck me as what I imagined a Victorian era bordello would have looked like, lots of red velvet curtains, upholstery, etc. Gr

Worked part time at Harvey Lumber Yard on 22nd and Paulina when I was a sophmore and junior in highschool. Two days after I graduated from high school in 1970 I began working at Lakeside Press on 31st, west of California. It was minimum wage + a piece work differential. I packed paper products, applied shipping labels when required, stacked the full cartons on pallets and then moved them to the

We all had a neighborhood place with the best burgers. However, the true best were at Pat's Ranch on the South East corner of Wolcott and 19th, across from Harrison Park. The hamburgers were made fresh from ground round when you placed your order and they had home made krinkle-cut fries and thick shakes. It was owned by Joe Paterek, the polka musician, and his wife. Unfortunately, it closed in

My Great Uncle and Great Aunt owned a small grocery store at 4350 S. Hermitage in the 50's and 60's. They lived in the back of the store. I think the name of the store was Zajac's.

My wife and I made our first major purchase, a sewing machine, at the Goldblatt's on 26th Street in Little Village. We paid for it on lay-away and made payments every week with a coupon book until the machine was paid off. We still have the machine 42 years later and my wife still uses it from time to time to time.

There used to be one at around Albany or Troy and 26th Street in the Little Village neighborhood. I used to go there with my parents on Sunday afternoons to listen to German and Polish polka bands. There was also Wozniak's beer garden on Blue Island and Oakley which was attached to Wozniak's restaurant and bowling alley.
