There is a bar at Halsted & Schubert (2683 N. Halsted St.) called Alive One. My Grandfather used to go there in the 1930's & 1940's. I've looked at pix online and it seems it might have some original furnishings? Don't know. I live in the suburbs and plan to visit Chicago soon. I might stop in. Is anyone familiar with it?

Thanks RJ. I will look up the Polk Directory. I'd love to locate photos of that area from back in the day. Any ideas?

This might be a little off topic, but is anyone aware of any current "smokeasies" in Chicago, or preferably, the far suburbs (north or west)?

This residence was owned by my 2nd Great Grandfather (Jose B. Garcia of the Perfecto Y Garcia business) in the 1920's and 30's. It remained in the family and my parents lived there in the early 1950's. The building is gone now, it seems to have been eaten up by Oz Park. I am searching high and low for an old picture (or any info)of this building. Any suggestions to expedite my search? Cooki

Does anyone have info on a bar called Playtown from the 1940-1950's? It was in Lakeview or Lincoln Park neighborhood. Possibly near or on Lincoln. My parents met there in the late 1940's.

Hi I'm new here and not sure if I am following protocol. I saw a post from rustymuscle (?) that he had a 1951 phone book. I am looking for an address for a Louis and Christine Marino in Oak Park or Chicago in the 1950's. Can anyone direct me? I live way out in the NW burbs (McHenry) and will travel to a Chicago library if necessary. Thanks for any help.
