Definitely not Hyde Park nor is it FMNH - there is (and never has been) any kind of observation deck, and the buildings on Michigan Avenue aren't that close - it looks like Lower Manhattan to me. The School of Public Health moved here around 2000, finally being able to be located in one building - previously they had been in two buildings further down Taylor - 2035 and 2121 (I think). 2035 - the "east building" had been the residence for the teaching nun's of the long gone high school. The Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore HQ is in a former Nike Base and until the mid 80s still had the towers and silos intact. I've heard that the hill at Montrose was a base too. Hyde Park rumor/pre-teen urban legend says that the point is hollow and a huge fallout shelter.

Yes, they are indeed subsidized elderly housing; they are built on an atrium concept. All the windows face a semi-private patio for quiet, since 55th street is very noisy,as well as to face the sun. I believe that they won an award from the AIA or at least got an honorable mention somewhere. I think I have this reference somewhere. In fact, I think I have the plan of one in a book, but maybe not.
