I grew up at north ave. and larabee and in the 40s there was a knife sharpener with a little push cart that came down vine st. There was also a ragman on a wagon pulled by a horse. You could hear him coming from a block away saying "rrrags" in an odd voice. We also had a fruit and vegetable truck come down the street for people who couldn't walk to the market.

Lars, If you can get onto "ancestry.com", I think you will find what you are looking for. If it is the same hans jensen, he was born in Denmark in 1866 and died in 1935. There are other hans jensens on ancestry.com,so you might check those also.

RichardStachowski, No, I don't believe it was called Old Town in the 40s. I lived right on the boundary of that area. I lived on Vine st. just north of North ave. I'm not sure why it was called that except for the buildings. Were you born in the forties and do you remember much about the area you worked in? I have old photos of the northwest corner of clark and oak and the northwest corner of what

I went to the Y in the early to mid fifties. I've been looking for some of the people I knew from there. If any one knows Ted Navolio, Angie Wolfe, Don Ludke or Angie Montalto, please let me know.

423reed, When I went to the Ideal, the cost was .09. And I lived directly behind the Ideal on vine street. For .09 one could see two features, three cartoons, a serial a newsreel and the previews of coming attractions. This was in the late forties/ early fifties. If I find a photo of the ideal or plaza, I'llsend you one.
