As I was looking at the changes along the Kennedy expressway on HistoricAerials, I noticed that the Halsted street bridge over Kinze street and the railyard had a different construction. It looks like it was more of a lattice construction than the current smooth "ramp" like overpass. Does anyone recall something like this, or are there pictures of this bridge before it was changed?

Are there many photos of the area before the Kennedy? I have seen some pictures taken of other areas that got bulldozed for the highway, but are there many photos of these places?

Thanks to google maps, I see what you are talking about. No idea as to why its there. It seems to have been there for a few years, according to Historic Aerials, since 98.

All i could find was this: http://www.dhke.com/CRJ/others-chino.html "About a block or so east of the diamonds, a UP (ex-C&NW) freight route enters from the south. At one time, it crossed the Northwest Line and headed north to an industrial area. However, the diamonds have been removed, leaving two separate branches that feed into the Northwest line here. There are a few freight movem

I noticed the railroad tracks that run north to south from way up by Cicero and the Kennedy get abruptly cut off at the railroad intersection at the Milwaukee District North Line. it looks like it used to have a crossing right there up until the last 10-20 years? Why did they remove the crossing, and then remove some overpasses farther south towards North Avenue? What was t he name of this N-S

Ok so I was looking around old maps of Chicago, and came across the 1911 map, and it shows Diversey Parkway as an actual parkway/blvd. Now I do know that originally, Diversey was suppose to be the final northern section of the grand blvd ring connecting all the parks and blvds of Chicago. (Yes I watched the special on PBS about the Biking the Blvds. lol) but it never was completed because it was

As ususal, during my perusing Historic Aerials.com site, and looking around the old Bloomingdale rail line I noticed a strange set of overpasses in this area between Kimball and Drake ave, and the new apartment buildings there. Looking though the older aerials it looks like there used to be a nice small sized rail yard or something that stuco off the Bloomingdale Line. Does anyone know any histo

I've noticed this many times driving down it, and its always puzzled me as to why it's so wide here. It almost looks like a failed main street like Montrose. I have heard once that supposedly many many years ago, there used to be railroad tracks down this street. My brother overheard this during the Jefferson Park block party, or some sort of large party held in Jefferson Park I think during th

http://cinematreasures.org/theater/272/ It looks like it is reopening after all! Does anyone have any memories of this place? I always enjoyed the starlights on the ceiling and the clouds moving across them! I had a feeling it was built in the 1920s, and its date of building was 1927. WoW! Its too bad they dont build movie theaters like this anymore.

As a northwestsider I love the Patio movie theater. I was saddened to see it close down years ago, and ever since, watching it sit empty and idle. I loved the interior in its classic old style, which made me feel like I was back in the 1920s or 1930s. Now I am hearing it is re-opening. I have alaways wanted to take my gf out to a movie there! Does anyone have any extra info on that or is it

It amazes me how things like this have happened in Chicago, and all around. Its a wonder nothing has been done there since the knockdowns!

Does anyone know of any photos, or seen photos of Oak Park Ave, between Addison and Belmont from the 1930s, 40s and/or 50s? Its a beautiful street on the NW side of Chicago, my neighborhood, and I was always wondering how my street looked like way back when!
