Talking about cigars and Maxwell street. My brother and I were cigar band collectors in the 50's 60's. We would walk the streets looking for bands. Maxwell street, downtown Chicago and many of the back of the yard taverns were great places to find bands. We would write to Cuban manufacturers. To this date we have over a 1,000 bands each. The good old days.

Back in the early 60's we use to hang out at Dog N Suds on Cicero & Southwest Hwy. It was a good date place. It had minature golf connected to the drive inn. Back then you would pull in and open the hood of your car to show off your muscle. Every weekend it was what you call now a car show or meet. Another place was Henery's Hamburgers on Archer and Cicero.

Hi again Rich, They had great food. After shopping we all went back to my aunts tavern, Town Club, which you know it as R&S Hideaway. In the 70's I owned three hot dog trucks that would cater to all the car dealers on south Western Ave, Chicago area parks, Oak Lawn, Evergreen park, Bridgeview, Hometown, Alsip.

Does anyone remember Maxwell Street or as some called it Jew Town, no disrespect intended. We loved going down there as kids. My dad and our uncles would buy their suits and hats down there in the 50's. They had great prices and on the spot tailors. You could smell the grilled onions, hamburgers etc. from blocks away. They were good.

We lived three homes down from Oakley Playground 50th and Oakley. We had roughly 25-30 kids in the neighborhood that would help the park manager build a berm around the park and Florian our Maint. man would water the area until it was perfectly smooth. No one was allowed on the ice until it was perfect. Sometimes we would go to Kirby's or Rainbow.

Troop 674 Gage Park reporting. We made many trips in the 50's to Dearborn in the summer and winter, Owassippi for two weeks in the summer and to the White Pines by train in the Fall. We had our Pow Wow's in Marquette Park and many nature hikes in Willow Springs. Those were the days.

In the 50's the neighborhood kids called it the white mountains because a area of the hill by the tracks was blown up. In the late 50's the city water company dug a reservoir and we all enjoyed climbing the mud walls and then in the 60's they made it into a ball field.

I have photos of when the demolished the plant along with my office. We still had 350 union employees and approximately 40 clerical/management. Most of them had enough time to retire and some of us took a transfer to other smaller more practical and economically stable plants. We were just too big. It was a great plant to work. We also had the number one First Place industrial softball team at

I have an old National Cash Register dated 1928 which only goes up to .50 cents. It's all original condition with a white marble plate and it's gold name plate on the front. It still works.

Back in the 50's it was one of our favorite places to bowl. I was seven and I rolled a 66. They were the only bowling alley, besides Marazano Palace bowl that had cork balls. Twenty years later I kept a 180avg.

I lived a few blocks from Von Solbrig and it was a strange place being right on the corner and off the main street (Pulaski). Foot traffic and loud cars passing by 24hrs a day can't make for a restful nights sleep or peace for the patients. My father died from a massive heart attack and was taken there as a DOA. I remember the dark and dingy hallways at the front entrance.

How about Home Run Inn on 32nd street. They would have 15 people in the kitchen flipping dough. The now store bought Home Run Inn pizzas can't compare to the good old days.
