I do remember Santucci's across from Midway Airport. Good pizza and Italian sausage sandwiches.But does anyone remember Orlando's on 63rd and Knox ? I worked part time at the public library on 61st and Kedzie . Carrs had broaste chicken that was fantastic, Little eddies had a Super Dog it was a Mary Ann Baking Poppy seed bun, a Tom Tom Tamale split in half with a Vienna Hot dog inside covered wit chili onions tomatoes and cheese wiz. Been a long time since I checked in but the massive building on the north west corner of 48th and Honore Was Not an apartment building. It was SCHOOL HALL and was owned by Sokol Town of Lake. After it was torn down about 1968 or so, four homes were built .Does anyone have pics ?

Anyone remember Uncle Mitch's on 61st and Pulaski ? It later became Vi Vi's. Mitch's goes back to the early 50's or late 40's, way before Little Eddies on 59th place and Pulaski.

Ron K as far as I know there was no Gerties in Brighten Park. There was however an Icecream shop on the corner of 51St Street and Damen Ave. named Gus's Icecream and soda parlor. Great hand dipped chocolates, Green River malts and shakes. and super hot fudge sundaes.

Richard, you are correct about Camp Kiwanis. Every Wednesday we had Campfire night and 7 Cheers to the Boy Scouts and they would answer back with 7 RAH RAH'S Back to us. Old School Hall was torn down in the late 60s or so but was on the NORTH WEST corner of 48 Th and its front door was on Honore.

Anyone out there remember a gymnasium on 48th and Honore (School Hall) which was the home of Sokol Town of Lake? Old pictures would be great. That Sokol also had a children's camp @ 103rd. and Willow Springs Road on Tuma Lake.I spent a few summers there.

High Low had an Ice Cream Called Roney's . I always wondered where the name came from. I also remember the red High-Low Flyer wagon I had from the late 50's until the late 60s.I delivered Sun Times and Tribune papers out of it.

The only Amphither near the stockyards that I remember was The Chicago Amphitheater, but it wasn't outdoor. It was used for many conventions and shows before the McCormic Place Exhibition Hall was built. The Chicago Auto show was held there every year up until the mid-late 60s.

59th and Kedzie was the Colony Theater.Next door to Gertie's Icecream.Spent many a Saturday afternoon there.Marquette is gone but I believe the Colony still stands Havn't been in that area for a few years but it was still there about 5 years ago.

It looks like an old White Castles. Note the White porcelain blocks. That was White Castle's trademark, and the price bach in the 50's was 5 cents ! Beautiful Find !

bob1060 Do you remember Uncle Mitch's Diner @ 61st and Pulaski, or the old Funeral Parlor on the West side of Pulaski; there was a Bar in the front, I remember an old man fishing in the street while it was raining and Pulaski was being Widened. Had to be around 1961 or so. That kinda strayed from the Ice Cream Topic so I will add another The Light House On Ogden & First Ave. Best Custard Ever

I remember a HIGH LOW Store at Between 67th and 68th and Pulaski. They carried a brand of Ice Cream called Ronnies it was real creamy and all natural. I also remember the High Low Flyer Red Wagon That I had for over 15 years.I delivered Chicago Sun Times and Tribune Papers in it until one of the wheels froze and split in half.
