In the August 11 1963 Chicago Tribune Magazine, there is an article of a bookseller trying to save the neighborhood at Ogden, Madison, and Ashland. There is an article dated Jan 5, 1936, page B10, in the Chicago Tribune regarding Goldblatt's purchase of the 26th street store from Leader Department store. There is a large photo of the store with the article. At the time the store was only 3 stories and a basement. The building was constructed in 1929 at a cost of $1,350,000.00. Also of note, Christiana was known as Turner Avenue at this date.
