My uncle graduated from Tilden in the late 40s. Now here's a quiz: There was a basketball scoring record set at Tilden that stood for decades. Players name and points scored.

I talked to the FC folks last weekend. The SPAM has gotten so bad, they are moving to another platform. When? Dunno. Apparently, something in the forum software has been compromised. Was no where near as bad in the past. For those here that think the FC folks don't know (or don't care) -- they do.

Wonder if the Chicago History Museum or Newberry Library might have a photo of Eli Bates, if one exists. And BTW, he donated the money (40K) for the Abraham Lincoln: The Man (aka Standing Lincoln) statue in Lincoln Park, unveiled in 1887. He lived on Dearborn Parkway a bit south of North Ave. My guess is he could see the statue from his home. There's a Eli Bates fountain in Lincoln Park as w

Here's a detailed FC written article on the Bloomindale Line. There was a FC walking tour of the Line a while back given by the author. Excellent. http://forgottenchicago.com/features/the-bloomingdale-line/ My Flickr album of the tour: https://www.flickr.com/photos/k9jdk/sets/72157635547756005/

If you look at the map linked below, the Southwest side is defined (in blue) by 12 Communities. Scrool down for the 12 Community names and map numbers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Community_areas_in_Chicago The source of the map is labeled: City of Chicago Data Portal, which can be considered "official" I guess.

First memory for this baby boomer is the Toman Branch Library located at 28th (ish) and Pulaski. The building I remember is gone, but I distinctly remember it "smelled" like a library. We walked there from more than a few blocks away. Hope kids are walking to the new library.

You might want to try the research library at the Chicago History Museum and/or the Newberry and/or the CPL.

I suspect the Chicago History Museum might have an answer to the "earliest photos" question.

Flickr album of FC's first tour of 2015. Learned a lot about Chicago's beer industry dating back to 1833, before Chiacgo was Chicago. https://www.flickr.com/photos/k9jdk/sets/72157649837910930/ And the website of our beer historian, Elizabeth Garibay. She *really* knew her stuff. http://www.tavernhistory.com/ Several great articles about this subject can be found on this web site t

Flickr album of the Chicago History Museum sponsored tour of the Loop "L" on 11/16/2014. Our tour guide was Greg Borzo, friend of FC and author of The Chicago "L" book. Great tour with several "I didn't know that" moments. https://www.flickr.com/photos/k9jdk/sets/72157649329490755/

Not exactly sure what you mean by "Trophy Shop" but I recall a hobby shop named Linka's which may or may not have sold trophies ( sports, etc). It was located about a block or so east of the Atlantic theater (aka show).
