I've alwasy been fond of the Garden City Laundry smokestake at 3333 W. Harrison. Never looked like much of a Garden but I always knew I was close to home when I saw it. http://goo.gl/maps/aSwU7

I took a tour of Dunning Hospital in the 1970's as part of an Urban Studies High School Summer class at Oak Park River Forest HS. History teacher Tom Ferguson taught it. We took one or two field trips each week throughout Chicago including a tour of Dunning. We visited patients in one of the Cottages and I recall one guy reading my fortune in my palm. The vivid memory though is of the court an

Somewhere I have a picture of this Street Car. Oddly I can't find any online at the moment. Via http://www.abandonedasylum.com/dunning1.html One of the more interesting facets of Chicago State Hospital was Cook County Car No. 1. From 1918 to 1939, this 60,000-pound interurban type car made weekly trips, carrying mentally ill patients from the Cook County Hospital to Dunning Hospital. For many

Via Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning,_Chicago Following the Civil War, Andrew Dunning purchased 120 acres just south of the county property to start a nursery and lay the groundwork for a village. He set aside 40 acres for the settlement, but proximity to the insane hospital kept settlers away. Initially transportation links were poo

This is interesting http://chicagotelevision.com/edmorris.htm But here was a station unlike any before it. In an attempt to carve its own niche in the viewing public's eye and in typical Chicago UHF boldness, the station offered no announcers, performers, or programming...instead a alpha-numeric news ticker (similar to teletext reports you see on your local government cable channel today) appea

The Milwaukee Road Historical Society did a special issue on Chicago and the chapter on the Bloomingdale line lists every Industry including Team Track users serverd on the line. I didn't see any issues available on their website. It's really a book quality publication so some libraries may have it. Here's a link to their site http://www.mrha.com/

It's the Baltimore and Ohio Chicago Terminal RRs Altenheim subdivision. It started at Rockwell Yard in the East and went west on the embankment past Sears to the the Belt Railway in Cicero and then went north and west alongside the Eisenhower Expressway to Forest Park where the SOO line picked up ownership. Altenheim Old Peoples home is there hence the name I gues. There was also a White Stucco

Search for "Bucket of Blood" in the Trib archieves and you'll find it's a freqent name. In 1918 there is a "caberet" at 1733 W. Madison, in 1980s the corner of 59th and Wentworth is known as the "Bucket of Blood". The Union League Club in 1939 says their center at2157 W 19th was formerly known as the Bucket of Blood.
