The Klas (Czech food) in Cicero has been open since the 1920s and remains largely unchanged.

Let me know what your price is and I'll see if I can get a better scan for myself. I didn't originally intend to sell it seeing as though I wasn't able to identify it.

I saw one today at an estate in Oak Park. S Bonfield. The thing is I could tell it was painted over a sign for W 8_ Ave. Not sure if it was authentic or not. I left it there.

I've been collecting Chicago ephemera for a bit and have recently created a set on Flickr. Make sure to enlarge images to read some of the items. I'll be adding items regularly so be sure to check back. Link: http://www.flickr.com/photos/30885260@N06/sets/72157608113856870/

I know the tourist office at the water tower has old Chicago signs for sale, although from what I recall they were mostly CTA signs. Finding those specific signs is probably like looking for a needle in a haystack.

I noticed an older liquor store sign on I believe Elston the other day (I rode my bike up Elston from Belmont to Devon). Classic vintage sign, the neat thing was it still had an older style phone number, the kind with numbers and letters. Anyone know where this is? I wish I had a camera with me, I really should of got a camera phone...

Took a look at it yesterday, the businesses are still operating behind the facades. In some cases it looks like they simply built new display windows for the movie set and placed them in front of the current shops.

I know this is "Forgotten Chicago" but I figured East Chicago was close enough. This seems to fit in with what everyone here is interested in so here you go... Marktown was (is) a planned industrial community located in the city of East Chicago, Indiana approximately 22 miles from Chicago's loop. Clayton Mark, of the Mark Manufacturing Company was a member of the Chicago Commercial

^You saw E 134 Place and S. Corliss, right? These run off of 134 st. There are a few other streets like this but they don't show up on Google maps. I'm wondering if these are public streets, they may not even be paved.

I assumed that it was a reference to that, I'll have to check that area out when it warms up a bit. Reminds me of an area south of Buffalo along Lake Erie, the area was developed as a cottage community back in the '40s or so, but the area has largely fallen out of favor as a resort area, and now is more inhabited by year-round residents.

I found this post about rural Chicago and the Hegeswich Lake Calumet area on SkyscraperCity. Unfortunately the pictures are no longer there. http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=264194

I was skimming over Chicago on Google Maps and noticed that at about 13400 S and 400-900 E (just north of the Little Calumet River) there were several streets which looked to possibly not be paved, were very narrow, and very sparsely populated. Some appeared on Google Streetview though the streets seem not to appear on a paper map of Chicago I have (Spring 2007 Chicago Bike Map). Anyways anyone
